MANAGING PARTNER, VANCOUVER OFFICE

"Together, we will achieve a practical solution that empowers you and respects your rights.

Throughout my legal career I’ve been involved in a wide variety of labour and employment cases although now the majority of my practice is focused on labour law.  I currently serve as practice leader of our labour group.

I am a qualified arbitrator and mediator who has acted as both mediator and counsel in mediations and arbitrations in a wide variety of circumstances.  I am an accredited civil mediation roster member for the British Columbia Mediator Roster Society.

My full practice has included work with the British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta Labour Relations Boards, the British Columbia Provincial and Supreme Courts, various Administrative Arbitration Tribunals including the British Columbia Employment Standards Branch and Human Rights Tribunal and the Saskatchewan Dispute Resolution Office. I’ve also appeared before the Federal Court of Canada and been involved in cases that appeared before the British Columbia Court of Appeal.

My approach to dispute resolution and litigation is practical, flexible and client centered. I recognise the importance of understanding my clients’ needs and I alter my approach accordingly.  I welcome a fight when that is in my clients’ best interests, but I’m also prepared to advise my clients to walk away when it makes sense to do so.

I’m a partner at the firm, but came to law through a diverse pathway.  I have worked in construction; was a Second Lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces Infantry Reserves; obtained a Bachelor of Science degree at McMaster University; earned an Honours Degree in Social Work as the graduating gold medalist; and worked as a social worker in the field of child protection in both Ontario and in British Columbia.

After graduating from the UBC Faculty of Law, I clerked at the B.C. Court of Appeal.  I then practiced general civil litigation at a large Vancouver law firm for five years before finding a small litigation boutique. There, my practice focused on employment and labour law on behalf of employees and trade unions.

When not practising law I love traveling, spending time with my family and friends and engaging in challenging athletic feats, such as swimming the Salish Sea to raise money for disadvantaged children, and competing in the Alcatraz Challenge.
